			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You will all be writing position papers on the topics assigned to your committee.  Use this checklist to organize your notes and ideas.</p>
<p align="center"><strong>Model UN Position Paper Checklist</strong> </p>
<p align="center">Use this check list to guide your research.  You can use the numbers on the list to code your notes (i.e. if you find a major historical event related to your topic, write a big number 6 next to the notes that you take on that event.)  To write a convincing position paper, you must try to include all of the elements from the checklist!<strong> </strong></p>
<p align="left">      1. <u>Quote</u> from your member state’s figurehead (leader), representative for the committee you’re in, the committee leader, or the Secretary General of the UN <u>about the importance of your committee</u> </p>
<p align="left">      2. <u>Date</u> your country entered the committee </p>
<p align="left">      3. The <u>ministry/department</u> in your country’s government that deals with this topic or committee </p>
<p align="left">      4. <u>Quote from a UN Document</u> that discusses the goal of your committee pertaining to the topic </p>
<p align="left">      5. Express your country’s concern about the topic.  What does your country think about it? </p>
<p align="left">      6. <u>Historical events</u> or past National programs that concern this topic </p>
<p align="left">      7. International, regional, or national <u>statistics</u> (data – numbers, percentages, graphs, charts, etc.) from your country concerning why this topic matters to your country, or to the international community </p>
<p align="left">      8. <u>Recent issues</u> concerning this topic and your country </p>
<p align="left">      9. Use a <u>quote</u> from your member state’s figurehead, representative for the committee you’re in, the committee leader, or the Secretary General of the UN <u>about your topic</u></p>
<p align="left">      10. <u>Resolutions pertaining to the topic</u> that 1) weren’t in the background guide and 2) your country has signed </p>
<p align="left">      11. International, regional, and national <u>programs dealing with the topic</u> that 1) weren’t in the background guide and 2) your member state is active in </p>
<p align="left">      12. <u>Propose a plan</u> with three or more actions that the international community must take to address this topic </p>
<p align="left">      13. Explain how this will solve the topic</p>
