Topic: Children in Armed Conflict
For years, children have been involved in armed conflicts in many ways, either being recruited into the military or having emotional and physical wounds that have a great impact on their future. During conflicts, children are the ones that suffer the most! Children are what we should be concerned about, providing them education and a warm home, definitely not letting them join the military and be a blank sacrifice for the country because it is totally unreasonable to do that! One example of this pressing issue is that Al Qaeda recently forced children to wear vests that carried bombs all around their body, serving as a self detonate bomb to the enemies. Evidence can be explored in New York Post.
In 1994, a genocide began in our country and it had killed too many children, most children didn’t survive but for some who survived were suffering from emotional and physical wounds, destroying their hopes and futures. During the genocide, a radio had said to kill the big cockroaches, you have to kill the small cockroaches first. This means that parents and children share the same horrors. Fortunately, United Nation, the Coalition, Armed Conflict Unit, and our country had built refugee camps and found new homes for children or reunite them with their parents but still, many children either lost a part of their body or had mental problems after the genocide. This problem must be concern by the world and us, we must not get them involve in any conflicts! Save them! Evidence is located in the UNCIEF website.
Nowadays, recruiting children to the military is still happening. In Sri Lanka, a guerilla attack was wiped out by the government and most guerillas are still in their teens and 128 that were dead are young girls. Before the girls went out to fight the government, they were served as sex slaves and were mean to have sexual relations with combatants. However, military around the world did not admit the use of child soldiers. Under the Convention on The Rights of Child, it clearly stats that children under the age of 18 cannot be recruit to the military no matter in what situation because it is illegal so there is a reason to keep children away from bloody conflicts. Adults are humans but children are humans too, they have rights and the freedom to choose! Evidence can be obtain in http://www.un.org
Dear United Nation, do not hesitate whether to save children in armed conflicts or not, save them before it is too late, before their future is destroy, before they suffer from physical and emotional wounds that was caused by conflicts that they had seen with their own eyes. The solution is in our hands! All we need to do now is sending forces to countries to save children who are serving as child soldiers. We strongly hope all countries will work shoulder to shoulder to revise the Convention on The Rights of Child

Topic: Malaria, TB, and other infectious diseases
Country: Rwanda

With Rwanda already in turmoil from the legacy of genocide, malaria, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases are almost too much for our small country to handle. With 60% of the people in Rwanda below the poverty line many people are dying because they afford the right medical treatment. Are we supposed to help those in need? What is our duty? So far many people have lost their lives from these diseases. We have to do something. Despite all the effort everybody puts in to prevent this, many people worldwide still suffer from infectious diseases. Our country is thinking greatly of this issue because many innocent lives are needlessly being lost.
The country we are representing, Rwanda, is facing a massive crisis. Malaria, TB, and other infectious diseases out there are a major problem for Rwanda. Rwanda is the most densely populated country in Africa and our economic resources are limited. We cannot afford the proper medicine to combat these diseases, we cannot afford materials to prevent these diseases from infecting our citizens, and we cannot afford to maintain reliable health care and disease prevention services. With Rwanda helpless against this issue, we can only depend on the help of other generous countries.
Our country, Rwanda, thinks greatly of this issue. We will not underestimate the powerful destruction that can be caused by diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis. From an article in Washington Times “Fighting Malaria” written in July 2006, the United States put in 17 million dollars annually to aid Rwanda combat malaria. This money is used to provide bed nets to prevent mosquitoes, the insects that spread malaria, and also provide antidotes for combating against malaria for those people who already infected with malaria. This plan is currently still in action and the U.S. is doing it’s best to combat malaria. Rwanda is grateful for this help.
There is also an institute called the Presidents Malaria Initiative (PMI). The goal of PMI is to cut malaria deaths by 50 percent in 15 countries in Africa by reaching 85 percent of the most vulnerable groups, mostly pregnant women and children under 5 years of age. They are a group that wants to save the lives of people who have malaria and such. Their strategy for this is to give residents a bottle that sprays insecticides, mosquito nets, life saving drugs, and treatment for pregnant women.
Another massive issue that faces not only Rwanda but the rest of the world is at hand. Tuberculosis, this is an illness that caused many people around the world to lose their lives. WHO launched a program that aims to stop tuberculosis and aims to save 14 million lives. From 2006-2015 they plan to provide access to drugs and diagnostic tests to all Tuberculosis patients. In Africa 1.6 million people died of TB. With more and more supporters, we are already seeing significant changes. From 1993- 2005 it has dropped dramatically, a 5 million difference between the numbers of tuberculosis cases. Still more people are suffering and we still need the help of other people.
The positions of other countries highly affect this issue that Rwanda is currently facing because right now Rwanda needs as much help it can get. Dr. Karemera said that support from Global Fund for the Fight against HIV/Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis; government has procured the drugs from the World Health Organization (WHO) and is now struggling to ensure effective distribution as a strategy to reduce malaria rates throughout the country.
In 2003, President George W. Bush announced the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, a five-year, $15 billion U.S. Government initiative that aims to provide treatment to at least two million HIV-infected people, prevent HIV infections, and provide care and support to 10 million people living with HIV/AIDS, including orphans and vulnerable children. To help reach these goals, the U.S. Government is expanding its programs and engaging new partners in 15 focus countries, including Rwanda. Rwanda received more than $39.2 million in 2004, $56.9 million in 2005, approximately $72.1 million in 2006, and is providing $103 million in 2007 to support comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care programs.
Imagine all your life suffering through malaria, TB, and infectious diseases with little support and no cure. This is exactly what happens in Rwanda, a poor country where one out of five suffers from such illnesses. In Africa, 3 million people suffer and die of malaria each year, that’s about one in every 30 seconds. Malaria is one of the world’s most common and serious diseases in the world. But this many deaths and this much suffering does not have to happen. With more support from the PMI and the other countries we can keep these sicknesses under control. We would like to see more cooperation of more countries to help not only our Rwanda, but other countries that are suffering from malaria, TB, AIDS/HIV, and all of the other infectious diseases that are ravaging the world. Many people are dying of malaria, TB, and other infectious diseases. Please consider our plea, people are dying as we speak, so the United Nations must make a difference and provide services for those in need. The lives of those people are in our hands, so do something about it.

TOPIC: Kidnapping
In 1994, the Rwanda genocide affected a lot people, especially kids. People are still affected from the genocide. Kidnapping is very prevalent in Rwanda. There are mostly young females getting kidnapped. The kidnappers hold the girls for ransom. Sometimes the kidnappers r@pe the young girls. The ages of children that get kidnapped in Rwanda are 14 to 18 year olds.
Rwanda is a source country for children trafficked within the country for the purposes of domestic servitude and commercial sexual exploitation. During the Rwanda genocide, 2 million children were killed and kidnapped. The Rwanda genocide was the war between the Hutu and the Tutsi.
The Rwandan Demobilization and Reintegration Commission continued to broadcast a weekly radio program in both Rwanda and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, reiterating the government’s policy of accepting all returnees who disarm and renounce violence, and granting immunity from prosecution for war crimes to anyone who was under 14 years of age during the 1994 genocide.
In conclusion, we believe that Rwanda should have more detectives going around getting the people who are responsible for the human trafficking. We also think the UN should step in and support Rwanda a little more with not just kidnapping, but security. Rwanda doesn’t have enough security and that’s why there is a lot of kidnappings and other crimes in Rwanda. We hope this helps.

Topic: Protection of orphans and vulnerable children
In 1994, there was a genocide between the Hutus and the Tutsi. What is a genocide? A genocide is the destruction of an ethnic, racial, or national group. In this case, the Hutus were trying to kill all the Tutsi. Before the genocide happened, Belgium used propaganda to “brainwash” the people in Rwanda. They said that people with darker skin isn’t very tall are Hutus and the taller ones with lighter skin are the Tutsi. Belgium decided to tell the Tutsi that they were better than the Hutus. The Tutsi started to hate the Hutus and started to discriminate them. After many years the Hutus were tired and sick of the Tutsi and they started to attack them. This was the cause of the genocide and because of this genocide many children lost their parents or got separated from their parents. After The genocide, a lot of children were also separated from their parents. There are other cases where children lose their parents from AIDS, it is said that the Hutu military men had raped Tutsi women. A lot of children became orphans and have to take care of their brother and sisters by themselves.
This genocide had caused many people dreadful memories. There is still discrimination in Rwanda, this problem hasn’t been solved. Hutus are still trying to find all the refugees who ran away from Rwanda. After the genocide, some children are forced to become the head of the household. Some kids have been adopted in to other countries and families but is now forced to return back to his home country. In Rwanda’s tug-of-war children from BBC, Gerard who is the age of 15 has been adopted into an Italian family. One day he was told that he would be returning to Rwanda after 6 years and leaving his Italian family who treated him like a real family member. There are also kids forced to be in the military, and kids sold into prostitution. These are very important problems dealing with children in Rwanda, it changes their future.
Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame is trying to help the problem in Rwanda, he says that due to the genocide and since it, a lot of people have taken action in helping the community, “We are not in position to turn down aid, but we know that aid is not end in itself. Trade is undoubtedly more importantly.” “There is a tendency to blame others for what happened. But this will not work. We need to find a way forward for ourselves. We need to work to develop a culture of integrity peace, and hard work. People may not think this can be done. But let’s show them what is possible, and then do it.” says Paul Kagame. During the genocide, about 10,000 people were dying everyday and people’s bodies were literally lying on the streets. The lakes were stuffed with bodies and the churches too, but now paved roads run through the country. There are people committed to helping clean up the country and work every two weeks. In the recent years women have gotten more rights too.
Currently, there’s a war going on in the democratic republic of Congo. The war is between the Tutsi and the Hutus. Democratic republic of Congo is a big country, the war caused all the smaller countries involved including Rwanda. Rwanda was pulled into the fight. The army is trying to get children to join the war to fight for Congo. The army kidnapping children scared a lot of families. This war in Congo has made it difficult for Rwanda to fully recover from the genocide.
We hope that U.N can send some people to come to help the orphans. We hope that U.N can set up a charity for the orphans. In the past, U.N sent the peacekeepers to go there to keep them from fighting, but that wasn’t really helping. The U.N peacekeepers can’t shoot the people. We would like to see all the countries around the world to help us out. We would really like the Economic Commission for Africa to help us with our problems. We hope that all around the countries can join the committee. Rwanda really needs your help.

Topic: illicit trade of illegal weapons
This topic is important because different weapons such as pistols can hurt people or EVEN kill people. Every year, these weapons kill at least 500,000 people. People in Argentina want these people stop and end this tragic. Argentina right now is part of United Nations who is fighting on our side. The people of Argentina want this shooting to end now so that we can have a peaceful and no shooting zone.
The issue, illicit trade of illegal weapons is a problem for Argentina. Many people died in the past and they don’t want it to happen again. Seriously, who would kill someone innocent? It would be important for the conference to analyze the measure already adopted at the regional level. Yes, they did. After years of neglect, U.N. and other multilateral efforts by U.N. member states have helped put small arms on the international agenda. These initiatives have been complemented by nongovernmental organizations’ work to highlight the human rights dangers posed by unchecked and unrestricted small arms flows. For example, Human Rights Watch has exposed the arms channels that have fueled human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law in the Great Lakes region of Africa, Angola, and elsewhere.
(Conventional weapons are responsible for the deaths of millions of people around the world. Our country has given a high priority to initiatives associated with the conclusion of an arms trade treaty. Domestically, we have initiated programs for the voluntary handover of firearms, the initial results of which have been encouraging.) Accordingly, on April 1996 Argentina became a full member of the wassenaar arrangement, since it supports, agrees with and will be guided by the purposes of that arrangement, namely.
To our opinion, the communities want the United Nation to end this shooting violence now because the United Nations want peace for dozens of years and still, they did not finish with their goal. However, they did deal with other country’s problem like that.

There are people in the world suffering from extreme poverty; some people spend less than a dollar a day. Poverty is when people are extremely poor, so poor that it is difficult for them to survive. The United Nations should help those poor hungry people. If my country, Argentina, doesn’t do anything about the hungry people, then they will die. Statistics show that more than 32% of my country’s citizens are dying from starvation. My country needs help. We are asking the United Nations to help that 32% of citizens in my country and the millions of citizens around the world who are suffering.
Poverty is killing people in my country. According to the report, “Poverty in Argentina,” my country is going to give people with extreme poverty 25 cents for every dollar they have. Hopefully, this will help them. We must try to eradicate poverty. It kills eight million people each year, because of poverty those people are so poor that they can’t afford safe water, heath care, and shelter. Some people get paid 3 dollars a day and some people get paid a dollar a day, they can’t live off of that kind of wage. That must be stopped. Eighty percent of that country is poverty that should be stopped. There is also infectious disease that kills people that have poverty, with that it comes with Violence and this information stated in the “Poverty in Argentina”. Poverty rose at 31% and 2001 and a peak of 58% 2002, source from Wikipedia.

UNICEF is an organization defined by the United Nations to stop kidnapping children and to stop child abuse. This committee is important because kidnapping is an issue in almost every country throughout the world. Without UNICEF nobody will help stop the kidnapping and this violence will keep on continuing. This is especially important to Argentina because people in our country are angry over the increasing number of violent crimes, including shootings on the street, kidnappings, and daylight robberies. We need UNICEF to help us address this.
This is an issue in Argentina because after Argentina went bankrupt at December 2001 people became poor and some people start to form gangs and kidnapping people for ransoms money. People protested at the police station because the police formed a gang and kidnap others. Argentina tries to address this topic by protesting. The government tries to address this topic by trying to find a way to boost the police presence.
The former president of our country, Nestor Kirchner, has stated that the country of the world that belongs to the UN should keep trying to stop this issue because this topic is too difficult to solve. The government increased the protection for people. They made a team call the International Convention for the Protection.

How has your country addressed the issue on an international level?
Due to some certain events our, country is taking poverty seriously and have been trying to help. At Tuesday, August 6, 2002 word spread like wildfire in Rosario: a cattle truck tipped over in the highway and the cows in there are still alive. 600 residents rushed to the scene wielding machetes and knives. “Kill the cows! Take what you can!” someone shouted in the crowd. Then people swarm over the cows. The stench of death filled the air. “The scene was horrifying,” said Alberto Banrel, a citizen that worked on construction jobs until last January. “People were dragging off bloody limbs and organs off of cows. And yet there I was, holding my own piece of bloody knife along with my bloody piece of meat. It’s like we became….monsters, or piranhas like in the discovery channel.” It seems poverty had change Argentina citizens.
What international conventions and resolutions has your country supported?
First the government tried to make more money, but that came to pass as poor help. In February 1 the argentine government passed a law that banned 1 year of logging in the “El Penetrable” forest. Due to the sandy and non-rich soil the argentine citizens only get 2 harvests a year.

Topic: Malaria and Tuberculosis
As you look at the world day by day many innocent people are dying. Diseases are the number one killer in the world despite any physical killing. Malaria and tuberculosis has been jeopardizing many souls of Argentina mentally and physically. We, Argentina has faced many hardships and tried fighting back against these diseases but nothing really helped. The government really has tried to take a role but hasn’t succeeded. Other countries have the same war as us such as Africa. But the difference from them and us is that they are receiving help from other countries but we aren’t.
Malaria and Tuberculosis is a serious issue in our country. Many deaths have not been defeated. Malaria is a disease that is given to you (received) by the parasites in mosquitoes. On a national level 1 million people are killed annually. Tuberculosis is a very common and deadly disease caused by mycobacterium. This disease attacks the lungs and can also affect the nervous system, lymphatic system, circulatory system and the genitourinary system. Even skin, bones and joints can be affected. But on a national level it’s been really hard for Argentina to actually try anything. Argentina as a country tried to join organizations that helped Africa with there diseases but only Africa really received help.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had played a big part; the agency had launched Infectious Disease Initiative in 1998 the US Congress had supported the initiative to prevent the increasing of malaria and tuberculosis and taken place and also, helping Argentina and other major parts that are infected . The (USAID) was simultaneously help strengthen treatment and have programs that control the health care system in the resident of the infections disease as malaria and tuberculosis and help decrease the capacity of malaria. Argentina’s President had taken control of the disease on April 25, 2007 a target of 50% success rate of infections disease, also the Global Fund to Fight AIDS had in 80% success of controlling tuberculosis and malaria an, in19 and more countries in the seventh round of funding. Argentina funds, donations, and treatments relate to other countries such as Africa the highest amount of infections disease and a very large amount of malaria and tuberculosis.
Argentina wants to look in decrease the rise of malaria and help save child and adults from their early deaths. Argentina would like to address the amounts of deaths of malaria in come up with the resolution to help save families lives.

Topic: Kidnapping
UNICEF is an organization defined by the United Nations to stop kidnapping children and to stop child abuse. This committee is important because kidnapping is an issue in almost every country throughout the world. Without UNICEF nobody will help stop the kidnapping and this violence will keep on continuing. This is especially important to Argentina because people in our country are angry over the increasing number of violent crimes, including shootings on the street, kidnappings, and daylight robberies. We need UNICEF to help us address this.
This is an issue in Argentina because after Argentina went bankrupt at December 2001, which made people become poor and others started to form gangs and kidnapping people for ransoms money.
The country wants the UN to keep trying to help them solve the issue of kidnapping. We suggest that the UN needs more guards around the world and that UN countries work together to help solve crimes such as kidnapping. We suggest a resolution to the UN to make a funding and communities so that people have money, which they will eventually stop forming gangs and kidnapping.
