NEW UNIT: Imperialism

Your assessment for this unit will be a persuasive essay.  Your essay will answer our essential question:

Is the war in Iraq an example of American Imperialism?

Remember our definition of imperialism: the policy (strategy) of expanding a nation’s power by getting territory (land) or by getting economic and political control over other nations.

You may post your initial thoughts on our essential question here.  As always, the more you discuss, the deeper your understanding of the topic will be!

I think that the War in Iraq was an act of American Imperialism by accident. We didn’t know whether or not there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq so we declared war on it. Also, Iraq was apparently a major suspect to have bombed the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Therefore, if they had weapons of mass destruction, disastrous events could happen to the world. When we found out that Iraq was innocent, Iraq was already destroyed by the fighting. Plus, their leader was in U.S. jail and terrorists were bombing everywhere. So the U.S. tried to set up a democracy and terrorism went down in Iraq. We didn’t know if Iraq had those bombs so we sort of tried to assimilate it into the U.S. and create a democracy there.

i think that that Iraq war is an example of imperialism because i think that since many people already know that Iraq doesn’t have anything to do with 9/11, the government still went war with them. since the fact have been found that Iraq didn’t attack the Twin Towers, then why do we still attack Iraq. it is clear that Bush wanted to take over Iraq. i think that is the case unless Bush has a grudge or something against Iraq.

i agree with jon and larry because Bush attacked Iraq even though they were innocent. these was imperialism because Bush tried to make less terrorism in Iraq after fighting with them. even when he found out they were innocent, Bush still continued fighting. this shows that Bush obviously wants to take over Iraq.

I think that Iraq is an example of an American Imperialism because the war of Iraq had continued more than a year and 9/11’s not even their fault. I agree with Larry because it’s like the rulers of Iraq did something bad to Bush that caused him to start this war (* i agree with Larry thinking that there might be a grudge*).

i agree with brandon tang because it’s almost as if Bush wanted the territory in order for the rulers in Iraq to not spill a secret out or something….

I think the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialisms because it’s policy/strategies of expanding a nation’s power is by getting economic and political control over the nations. Like what Larry had said, “It is clear that Bush wanted to take over Iraq even though it was not known as the criminal which had attacked the Twin Towers.” I agree with Larry because I think there’s no reason to go against Iraq if Bush didn’t have proved that Iraq was connected to 9/11 and that it was involved/participate in it. It wasn’t until we found out the truth about the non-connected Iraq War and 9/11. Not just bombing is happening everywhere but also reducing funding. There were no prove that the Iraq have anything to do with 9/11, all the crashing and all the bombing. As a result, a lot of people think Bush had cheated.

IMPERIALISM IS IT TRUE OF FALSE

would you say that the war in Iraq is a example of American imperialism? imperialism is whaen a contry takes over another. By destroying them or taking over big parts of there country. the war in Iraq is not of sighn of American imerialism because the u.s army was trying to save the IraqIs from Saddam Hussein. (from 21 Days to Baghdad).
would you say that the war in Iraq is a example of American imperialism? I would say that the war in Iraq was not a sighn of American imperialinsm. For example the u.s army was trying to stop Saddam Hussen from using chemacle wepons on the people of Iraq. these details show that the u.s is not being imperialistic. (21 days to Baghdad).
Some might say that the u.s is being imperialistic because they are trying to put camras into Iraq. they are trying to put camras into Iraq so they don’t make wepons of mass destruction. they were trying to stop Iraq from killing lots of people. for example the u.s was taking over the Baghdad airport they only did thet so the IraqIs don’t try to leve and destroy another contry or state. (21 Days to Baghdad).
this eveny teaches us about imperialism and it tecaches about people like Saddam Hussen, Presidant Bush, and binladen. it alos teaches us bbout how people in Iraq was making wepns of mass destruction.

    Imperialistic Americans

Imagine what it’s like to be injured with both arms broken-off, severely burned, and knowing that all your siblings and parents are dead. This is exactly what 12-year-old Iraqi boy Ali Ismail Abbas is going through. But he is not the only one who is suffering in Iraq. Some lost their faces with burned skin, some lost their eyes or other body parts, while others have to deal with the pain of losing a loved one. Or in the worse cases, they have died. There are many ways to see that the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialism. Though some may disagree, the facts prove that it is. President Bush made the U.S. soldiers stay in Iraq for a long period of time to take advantage of the Iraqis and the U.S. has taken advantage of Iraqi resources.
One reason that proves the war in Iraq is American imperialism is that the U.S. soldiers have stayed in Iraq for five years already. President Bush sent U.S. soldiers to Iraq to search for illegal weapons. But in the article from TIME for Kids, it was mentioned that Saddam had already announced that they didn’t have any weapons. This means that the U.S. should have not attacked Iraq. Bush started the war also because he wanted to make sure that Iraq didn’t have any weapons, which means Iraq could lose power from that. This shows the reason U.S. is still staying in Iraq is because they are trying to take over Iraq.
Another example that shows that the United States was being imperialistic in its war with Iraq can be seen in the films Fahrenheit 9/11 and 21 Days to Baghdad, American businesses and soldiers have been protecting AND using Iraqi oil. The oil is in Iraq and the Iraqis own it. The U.S. does not have a right to do anything about it, because it is Iraq’s property, not the U.S.’s. It is clear that the U.S. is taking advantage of the situation in Iraq. These actions show that the U.S. involvement in Iraq is an example of Imperialism.
Some say that the war in Iraq is not an example of American Imperialism. A piece of evidence that they use to prove this is that according to film, 21 Days to Baghdad, President Bush is trying to protect the U.S. from Iraqi weapons, so that’s why he started the war. But according to the article “Confusion over Iraq’s Weapons,” from TIME for Kids, it states that although “Bush and many on his staff said that U.S. fact-finding groups, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), had evidence of illegal weapons in Iraq, no such weapons have been found.” It is now 2008, and they still have not found one single weapon of mass destruction. The U.S. should have leave the country and stop the attacks. The fact that the U.S. has not left clearly shows that the U.S. is trying to take over the power from this country, therefore the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialism.
Americans need to know that the war in Iraq is imperialism because the U.S. has stayed in Iraq already for five years to take advantage of Iraq by using its oil. And most of all, the Bush administration is trying to rip-off the Iraqi weapons and kill many innocent people. It is obvious that Bush is trying to take Iraq’s power away. Americans need to mind their own business and leave Iraq alone. Many Americans are blind and don’t really know or care about how imperialistic America is being. People need to know the truth about the Iraq War. It is time for all of us to know the reality and take actions to stop this war and the death of Americans and Iraqis.

    Bush Fault

Did Saddam Hussein Started the war in Iraq? Did Saddam Hussein really know hide weapons of mass destruction? Some might think that the U.S is not imperialistic and that Saddam Hussein started the war. Also we don’t know, when the U.S army got there they found nothing. However, the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialism. First the U.S attacked Iraq without warning, and Bush said that Saddam Hussein was hiding weapons of mass destruction.
Yes, the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialism. The war in Iraq is an imperialism is when U.S attacks Iraq without warning, because Bush said that Saddam Ossian is hiding massive destruction weapons. When the U.S army got to Iraq they found nothing, or Saddam Hussein was hiding weapons of mass destructions.
Another example of is when Bush said that the war in Iraq is over in 2004, and that we won. But were still in the war in Iraq and it is 2008. Bush lies, even when 9/11 is happening he, Bush was at a school reading a picture book to the kids. His agent or bodyguard told his that U.S is under attack and that the twin towers are falling he stills continues to read.
Yes, Bush was smart to go to Iraq to clean up weapons of mass destruction. But when the U.S army got there they found out that the Iraqis didn’t have them. So the U.S army should have gone home. But Bush told them to stay in Iraq for 5 Years. So it like the U.S army is taking over Iraq instead of helping it.
Yes, the war in Iraq is an example of American Imperialism. Bush told the U.S army to sent missiles to Baghdad for no reason, hitting every tall building. The U.S took down Saddam Hussein statue and people in Iraq were upset.

    Oil For Life?
How will you feel if you saw soldiers from another country entering your home and started killing people? How will you feel if you had to watch your families and cousins getting killed and statue of your leader getting torned? Well that is what exactly happened in the war with Iraq. Imperialism is the strategy to expand your country’s power by taking over land and their economy. There are many ways to see that the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism.
One reason why the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism is that over the past historical years America has been taking over other land that was originally doesn’t belong to united states, for example Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Based on the article” America stretches its Wings” Queen Liluokalani was being overthrown and forced out of Hawaii and after the Spanish American war Puerto Rico became American territory. The war in Iraq and the search of massive weapon might be just an excuse to use Iraqis oil resource and control Iraqis oil fields which can make 1.2 billion.
Another reason why that the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism that based on a time for kid article American soldiers had stayed in Iraq for five years even after bush had Saddem Hussein. What did the soldiers do? Well they stayed in Iraq protecting and guarding the oil field instead of sending the soldiers home. Oil, oil, oil; Iraq’s economy is based on their greatest resource, oil. When America invaded, Saddem sets his oil fields on fire so that the American’s soldiers couldn’t have them. American soldiers under Bush’s commend tries to save the oil fields. If America went to war in search of massive weapons how come American troops wouldn’t let the massive weapon burn? Why did they care? They care because taking over the oil fields can make more than 1.2 billion dollars each year. This point strongly states that Bush wanted to take over Iraq and the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism.
Some people might say that the war in Iraq an no an example of American imperialism because Bush sent troops to invade Iraq in search of massive weapons and for American safety. This point is wrong because based on the CIA intelligence there were fact relating that there were massive weapons hidden in Iraq. And because of that fact UN inspectors searched in Iraq for five years and so far no weapon was found. The war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism because America wanted oil and wanted to take over Iraq.
It is very clear that the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism because over the past historical years America has been taking over other land that was originally doesn’t belong to united states, for example Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Another reason why the war in Iraq is an example of American imperialism is that American soldiers had stayed in Iraq for five years even after bush had Saddem Hussein. People’s life had been suffer in the war with Iraq so America don’t make the same choice again.

    “Peaceful America”

Saddam Hussein terrorized his own people but the U.S stepped in and tried to stop him. Some might say Bush went there to take oil. Other might say he went there to protect the people. The war in Iraq is not a example of American imperialism. The U.S wanted to give freedom to good Iraqis citizens and bush gave a warning before the war started.
The war in Iraq is not an example of American imperialism because in the artic “The Solders in Iraq” Bush gave a warning to citizens to get out of Iraq before the war started. He gave a warning because the US was gong to bomb Iraq. They bombed Iraq because the US had to kill Saddam Hussein. These details show the Iraq war is not a example of American imperialism.
The next reason the Iraq war is not a example of imperialism is because in the movie 21 Days to Baghdad the US wanted to give freedom to the good Iraqis. They wanted to free them because Saddam Hussein was being cruel to his people. They wanted to free them because Saddam Hussein was being mean. The US help them from being treated unfairly. These details show the war in Iraq is not a example of imperialist.
People might say that bush sent the solders to Iraq to take oil from them but that’s a lie Bush send the soldiers to help the people from mean ruler. The US helped Iraq from all the bad things that Saddam was doing. Also the Americas did help Iraq because all the crimes in Iraq is getting lesser and the Americans helped get reed of Saddam Hassan. These details show that bush sending the soldiers in Iraq for oil is a lie.
Those details show that the war in Iraq is not a example of American being imperialist. The reasons way the war in Iraq is not a example of America being imperialist is that the US wanted to give freedom to the good Iraqis and before the war started bush gave a warning to all Iraqis before the started the war . This shows how war can be a good thing because if the war didn’t happen Saddam would still terrorize his people .
