This link is about how to get a visa. A visa is like a piece of paper that allows you to enter the United States for a certain period of time. To get a visa is sort of like what Henry said. First, you have to make an appointment at a US Embassy/Consulate. Second, you need to have personal information ready like your passport, documents saying why you are going to the United States, and appropriate applications. Third, you have to have your visa reviewed by a consular officer or most likely an official from Washington D.C. Visas take about a few weeks to complete. Also, there is no guarantee that you will receive your visa. In some situations, they must review your visa more thoroughly. After this, you can travel to the United States and when you get off the plane, you are to follow the non-citizen entry instructions.

This is what they do see if the person is an ctizienship or not. Federal immigration law determines whether a person is an alien, and associated legal rights, duties, and obligations of aliens in the United States. It also provides means by which certain aliens can become naturalized citizens with full rights of citizenship. Immigration law serves as a gatekeeper for the nation’s border: it determines who may enter, how long they may stay and when they must leave.

Question:What is the present immigration policy in the U.S?
Summary:
The first thing is the border patrol/guards, they are supposed to watch the border. They have had funding and an increase of guards at 63% leading to 15,000 at the end of this year, 2007. The new policy says that an illegal immigrants would be returned to their homeland if their country did’nt take them back soon after some time. People need to see your legal documents. This is because the immigrants without legal documents are illegal immigrants. They do this to verify the immigrant. Many Mexicans, Asians, or any other races try to get over the border. All immigrants need a green card to get into the U.S so they can live there and make money.

This internet page will show will be a summary about a report. It told me about the good effects on immigrants such as immigrants can secure better jobs quickly, earn higher incomes, and contribute to the U.S. economy. I learned that immigrants are doing well in America too. According to the 2000 Census, 91 percent of children and 97 percent of grandchildren of Mexican immigrants speak English good. This page is from the views of the good outcomes for the immigrants.
HOMEWORK:WHAT IS THE CURRENT IMMIGRATION POLICY OF THE U.S. TODAY.
LINK:http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/01/20040107-3
America is stronger and better than any other nation because of the hard work and the faith and entrepreneurial spirit of the immigrants. The nation has received 18 millions of mens, womens, and childrens in the mayn other nations. About 14 percent of the nation’s workforce is foreign-born. Most of them begin working in America by taking hard jobs and going on long hours in important industries. Many immigrants also start businesses, taking the familiar path from hired labor to ownership. Illegal entry across the borders of the nation makes more difficult for doing urgent tasks of securing the homeland. The system is not working. The nation needs an immigration system that serves the American economy, and reflects the American Dream.

What is current immigration policy of U.S. now?
Since the Statue of Liberty stands for freedom, rights and justice, America is opened to any immigrants that come. During these past decades, the number of immigrants arriving to America is growing by 500 in the beginning, a sudden drop most of the way down and has kept on increasing as it continues. Since this sudden increase in the middle had happened, America was stated that if you wanted to enter at all, you would had to pass a literacy test. So, if you pass the test, you are free to enter the USA. But if you failed, you must leave and try again for the next few years!!

Immigration laws should be fair to the immigrants. They must increase the immigrants rights in their work place. They’re treated unfairly by U.S born citizens. If they want higher wages, they will no speak out because they’re scared that the Owners won’t hire them if the owners were U.S born. The pro-middle class immigration policy should give them labor rights.

Illegal immigrants in the U.S needs legal protection and it’s still a challenge for them. People who are born in the U.S like the low and middle class people most likely express or go towards anti-immigration. The illegal immigration Control Act shows that the legislator is ready for all those fears. A document reported that protecting the immigrants right in the work place help the middle-class because immigrants pay the most taxes.

In the early 1800s immigrant was both good and bad for America. Since then it has became an issue on topic. Later in 2003, President Bush used the laws from the 1800 and he focused on a program called guest worker. This program to enter the country but not to stay, they could fill jobs. Immigrant were happy because they didn’t leave their country for nothing. They could support their money thanks the program guest worker.

“In 2003, President Bush called for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws, the first since the mid-80’s. His proposal focused on creating a guest worker program that would allow immigrants to legally enter the country temporarily to fill jobs that employers say would otherwise go unfilled.”
I think this was only used to help America. I think Bush didn’t have any intentions to do with the immigrants. After all there is a war going on and America needs money so probably he uses those people to help work and pay for the war and then when the war is over. Also on the link I learned that one present immigration policy of U.S today is that the immigrants must come here with fluid English or learn English, must pay their taxes. Also another policy i learned is that un-working people looking to become a citizen will have to go back to where they came from.

This page provides information on laws, policies and explainations controlling immigration. It says that The Immigration and Nationality Act was created in 1952. Before this act, there were variety of statutes governed immigration law but were not organized in one location. The McCarran-Walter bill of 1952 collected and codified many existing requirements and reorganized the structure of immigration law. The Act has been amended many times over the years, but is still the basic immigration law.

Immigration was a good and bad thing for America. Since the 1800s immigration has been a problem in the U.S, and it is still one of the troubling tissue today. In 2003, Bush wanted to pass out a proposal that was called the guest worker program. This didn’t make deportation for illegal immigrants but instead it offer them assistance. It was a program that let immigrants come to the U.S legally and temporarily fill in the jobs at the U.S. This plan was set aside when the Iraq war started. Meanwhile, there was a group called bipartisan that tried to do the guest worker program and make illegal immigrants to gain their legal status. This didn’t work even through the help of President Bush. The group was defeated and that senators didn’t think that kind of bill would be passed before the election of 2008

There are a lot of immigration laws in the U.S. There are a bunch of diffrent ways you can come the the U.S and stay here. Some examples are asylum wich means protection and immunity from extradition granted by a government to a political refugee from another country, a green card wich is an official card wich lets foreign national’s work in the U.S legally, or a visa that allows you to enter the United States for a certain period of time. But even with all of that it still take’s a while for you to get these things because of all the leagal steps that need to be taken. However if you are born in the U.S you automatically because a U.S citizen even if your parents are not.

Republican-led House and Senate passed immigration legislation during Bush’s 2nd term. Some people had plans of making illegal immigrants into legal immigrants. There was a debate about illegal immigrants from Mexico and the immigrants that are coming to the US. Some people argued that they should keep the current immigration laws instead of writing new ones.
H.W.
Ever since the early 1800s there were troubles about immigration. In 2003 President Bush proposed to creating a law that allows the immigrants to go into America to fill in a role for a empty jobs.In 2005 the Republican controlled house passed a bill that rejects President Bush’s plan and called for deportation of all illegal immigrants in America. It also prohibited acts of assistance towards the illegal immigrants. Many groups and orginizations representing the immigrants were angered. A Bipartisan group of senators, with President Bush’s help were trying to make the plan with guest workers a reality and allow illegal immigrants to have a chance to become citizens. However the plan had failed and negotiations continued in 2007, but the plan kept failing and all senators on both sides believed that no bill about this would likely be passed before the election of 2008.

This site is about people who immigrated from the early 20th century until now. In the article it talks about this girl that immigrated from Kenya to Georgia, US. She talks about how different it was for her and the struggles she had. Her name is Kauther Hassan and she is really homesick. Although she knows life will be better for her here in the US, she knows that she can never leave Kenya behind.
*She compares her lifestyle in Kenya to the new ways she has to live now.

Some people came to the U.S for jobs so they can support their family back home.Of the more than 1.2 million people who immigrated last year, fewer than 13% were admitted based on job skills. The system would give an advantage to those people who are highly educated, have skills that are in demand in the USA, have worked here, have relatives here and are fluent in English.
